The Gospel of Saint Mark painting is now available in poster form together with notes from McCrimmons at www.mccrimmons.com

The single painting of St. Mark's Gospel uses the ideas of labyrinth previously developed . A study of this ambitious project had already been painted and Peter hopes that the full blown painting does indeed express the excitement and passion of of the text and that viewers will be able to use it as an aid to meditating St. Mark's Good News as well as for educational purposes.

The Penguin 'Dictionary of the Bible' by John Court

Illustrations by Peter Clare

In January 2007 Peter Clare was asked John Court and Penguin Press if he would provide some twenty black and white illustrations of incidents recorded in the Bible. He was given till the end of February to do them! Quite a challenge but one that Peter was keen to accept. After some discussion with John Court Peter decided he would use pen and ink and brush. He just about managed to complete the task but found the whole task most enjoyable and went off to Spain in mid-March feeling tired but quite pleased with himself!

Peter's art on BBC TV

Peter was approached by the BBC TV Schools department to provide artwork and be interviewed on his work for a programme introducing the Old Testament and New Testaments. Filming took place in September, 2003, in his studio. We very much enjoyed the whole experience. The Films made are in the schools programme series 'Pathways of Belief' and are on the Old and New Testaments. Both films include work by and interviews with Peter. They are regularly broadcast on the BBC and have been supplied to other networks worldwide. They are expected to have a shelf life of about 10 years or more. The Old Testament programme was recently recommended for a TV award.

The Saint Matthew Cycle

Since then Peter has been painting furiously completing a set of Stations of the Cross which he hopes his parish will accept for the Catholic Church in Knighton. He managed to paint the nine paintings covering chapter 12 of St. Matthew's Gospel in just over three months which augurs well if, indeed, he is to finish the Gospel by the time he is 80. He has also started a new set of paintings under the title of 'Q?' inspired by his holiday in Spain and France and the reading he did then. More anon on that.

It is hoped to upload photos of the paintings covering chapters 8 to 12 before very long so please keep visiting this site over the next few months.

Now that the St. Matthew Cycle has been properly launched we hope others will invite us to put on exhibitions of paintings from the St. Matthew Cycle in their churches or suitable venues. The costs are not huge and Shrewsbury have shown how effective this cycle can be in provoking an enthusiastic interest in and a deepening love for the story of our Lord Jesus Christ.
